Main Accountabilities

  • Monitoring and troubleshooting server, storage, and networking equipment for malfunctions or failures
  • Installing and configuring new servers, storage devices, routers, switches, and other network components
  • Conducting capacity assessments of existing infrastructure to ensure that it can support future growth
  • Maintaining detailed documentation of all server and storage configurations and changes made to them
  • Performing regular backups of data to prevent loss in case of computer failure or theft
  • Providing technical support for applications and operating systems used in the data center
  • Writing scripts to automate common processes within the data center environment
  • Monitoring energy usage across the data center to ensure efficient operation
  • Conducting environmental and air quality tests to ensure compliance with federal regulations

Requirements

I. Education:

  • While there are no specific education requirements for data center engineers, many employers prefer candidates who have a bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, engineering or another related field. Some employers may also prefer candidates who have a master’s degree in engineering or computer science.

II. Training & Experience:

  • Data center engineers typically receive on-the-job training after they are hired. This training helps them learn the specific systems and procedures of the company. It also helps them learn the specific tools and technologies they will use in their daily work.

I. Electrical engineering:
